The Clients Who'd Happily Pay Your Full Fee Are Searching For You Right Now.
They're typing "therapist near me" into Google tonight. They have the money. They just don't have your name. I'll fix that in 12 weeks. No insurance panels, no more time on Instagram.

Zero Hours On How
Clients Actually Find You.
WHY ISN’T MY PRIVATE PRACTICE GETTING CLIENTS?
Most private practices don't get clients because clinical training doesn't cover marketing. Neither CSWE nor CACREP accreditation standards require a single hour of business or marketing coursework. Therapists graduate knowing how to treat people and not knowing how to be found by them.
You learned assessment. You learned diagnosis. You learned how to sit with someone in the worst week of their life and not flinch.
NOBODY TAUGHT YOU HOW TO GET FOUND.
So you did what the rest of us did. Built a Psychology Today profile and waited. Made an Instagram account and posted until it felt like a second job. Asked for referrals and felt weird about it. And when the calendar still had holes in it, you quietly assumed the problem was you.
It's not a personal failing. It's a training gap, and getting found is a learnable skill with actual steps.
How Do Therapists Get Private-Pay Clients?
Therapists get private-pay clients by being findable where people actually search for a therapist, and by converting the ones who find them. Two skills: getting found, and getting booked. That's the Found and Booked Method, and it has five steps.
01 | Set Up Your Google
Business Profile Correctly.
Claim it, choose the right category, decide between a service area and a street address, and keep it current. For most therapists this is the single highest-return hour they’ll ever spend on marketing.
02 | Rewrite Your Directory Profiles to Convert.
Psychology Today plus the two or three others actually worth your time, with a personal statement written for the person reading it at 11pm, not a bio written for your colleagues.
03 | Make Your Website Answer The Questions People Are Already Typing.
Not a brochure. A set of answers.
04 | Get Found By AI Search.
People now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI to recommend a therapist. Appearing in those answers takes structured, question-shaped content and a machine-readable credential, and almost no therapist has built either.
05 | Convert the Consult Call and Hold Your Rate.
Traffic without conversion is just traffic. This is where we rebuild the call so the right people say yes, and give you language for your fee that you can actually say out loud.
Private Pay vs Insurance Panels, With Nothing Sugarcoated.
SHOULD A THERAPIST TAKE INSURANCE OR GO PRIVATE PAY?
Insurance panels deliver clients without marketing but pay 25 to 35 percent below private pay on commercial contracts, on a 30 to 90 day cycle, with clinical decisions subject to review. Private pay means setting your own fee, getting paid the day of the session, and taking full responsibility for being findable. Private pay is any arrangement where the client pays your full fee directly rather than a third party reimbursing part of it.

The Real Tradeoff is This.
Private pay costs you marketing.
Insurance you costs money, time, and clinical autonomy.
Most therapists don't leave insurance because they hate insurance. They leave because they ran the math on the next twenty years.
Can I keep some insurance panels while I build private pay? Yes. Many therapists run a hybrid for six to twelve months, filling private-pay slots while panel clients naturally roll off. It's a legitimate plan and we'll build it that way if it fits your finances.
This isn't a purity test.
Four Therapists Who Went From an Empty Calendar to Booked.
DOES BUSINESS COACHING FOR THERAPISTS ACTUALLY WORK?
Four therapists who completed the Therapist Private Pay Accelerator went from unfilled calendars to full private-pay caseloads. Here's what changed and how long it took.
NIKKI [Surname, Credential]
Couldn’t get clients in the door. Her ideal client now finds her on Google every week, and she reached $10,000 months within [timeframe] of finishing the program.
DENISHA [Surname, Credential]
Came off insurance panels entirely. Full caseload, all private pay, and a schedule she controls.
JODI [Surname, Credential]
Was bracing to go back on panels just to survive. Instead she stayed full, kept growing, and has since hired.
Individual results vary. These are the outcomes of specific therapists who completed the program and are not a guarantee of earnings.
LESLEY BITTNER, LCSW
"I have more financial and time freedom and now work less days per week, too. Which was a big goal for me so I could be more present for my daughter, family, friends, and to do what I love outside of work."

CaseloadYou Built Yourself.
WHAT IS THE THERAPIST PRIVATE PAY ACCELERATOR?
The Therapist Private Pay Accelerator is a 12-week coaching intensive from Jessica Harris, LCSW that teaches licensed therapists to fill a private-pay caseload using Google, therapist directories, and their own website. It runs online, includes live coaching 3 times a week, and comes with an 8-client guarantee.
THE 12-WEEK CURRICULUM
Ten modules, in order, with lifetime access: pricing and foundation, Google Business Profile, therapist directories, niching, website, SEO, AI search and Google Ads, mindset, scaling to a group practice, and income beyond the therapy hour.
LIVE COACHING 3x A WEEK
Direct and specific, not a recorded course you'll abandon in week three.
A WEEKLY PRIVATE CALL
With the Empowering Therapists team, on your practice specifically.
At the end of 12 weeks you don't just have clients. You have a repeatable system for getting found, and it stays with you after the program ends.
TEMPLATES AND DOCUMENTS
Intake forms and documents you'd otherwise pay a lawyer or a designer to produce.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T GET 8 CLIENTS IN 12 WEEK?
If you complete the program requirements and don't book 8 new private-pay clients within your first 12 weeks, you keep full access to the curriculum and all live coaching until you do, at no additional cost. This is extended coaching, not a refund.
A new private-pay client means a client who books and attends a paid session at your full fee, not through an insurance panel.
Doing the work means attending [X] of the live calls, completing each week's implementation steps, and submitting your Google Business Profile, directory profiles, and website for review by [week].
I can offer this because I know what happens when a therapist runs these steps in order. The only version of this that fails is the one where the work doesn't get done.

Every Therapist Thinks Her Market is the Exception. It Isn't.
-
Small towns are often the fastest markets to rank in, because almost no local therapist has optimized anything. Fewer competitors at the top of Google, not more. The scarcity works in your favor.
-
Most cities are saturated with therapists, not with findable ones. Search your specialty in your city and count how many results have a complete Google Business Profile, current reviews, and a website that answers the question a scared person is typing. That gap is your opening.
-
Someone in your zip code is paying out of pocket for therapy this week. Roughly 35 percent of US psychotherapy providers accept no insurance at all, and they have full caseloads. The question was never whether those clients exist. It's whether they can find you.
-
No. Every step is broken down and demonstrated, and you have three live calls a week to ask. Most therapists who complete the program describe themselves as not tech people.
-
About [X] hours a week for 12 weeks. Most therapists run it inside the unbooked hours already sitting on their calendar.
-
Yes. The Found and Booked Method uses Google, therapist directories, and your own website. It doesn't use social media, and you don't need an audience to make it work.
ABOUT JESSICA
Nine Weeks With an Empty Calendar Almost Ended My Career.
WHO IS JESSICA HARRIS?
Jessica Harris, is a business coach for therapists who practiced as one first. She built and sold a six-therapist private-pay group practice, wrote The Wealthy Therapist, and founded Empowering Therapists to teach other therapists how to fill their own caseloads.
I went private pay and then nothing happened. Nine weeks. No calls, no inquiries, no reason to believe it would change. I had bills, a kid, and a decision I was starting to deeply regret.
Then I stopped waiting to be discovered and went and learned how people actually look for a therapist. Google. Directories. The exact words they type at 11pm when they finally decide they need help.
Four months later my caseload was full. It kept going, so I started hiring. Six therapists later I had a group practice, which I eventually sold.
I'm not a business coach for therapists who picked the niche off a spreadsheet. I'm a therapist who had to learn this to stay in the field.
